A RARE Kew Gardens 50p coin has sold for a whopping £234.
The commemerative coin is less than 15 years old and marked 250 years since the botanic heritage site was opened.
There are thought to be only 210,000 of the special 50p in the world – hence why the price climbed more than 468 times in the eBay auction.
It was one of the top ten rarest coins in circulation, according to The Royal Mint.
It was a limited edition release, making it 50p that could be worth a lot of money if it pops up in your spare change.
Some have been known to sell for around £700 on eBay.
Bidding started on this one at 99p but the cost climbed more than 468 times – seeing the coin sell for the massive £234.
Plus, the Mirror reported the buyer wanted it shipped on express delivery – so paid an extra £7.65
This saw the total price they paid for the 50p jump to £241.65.
A whopping 26 bids were placed on the coin.

The buyer, who said they are themselves an avid coin collector, said the 50p was in “excellent condition” and was “very sought after” for a coin collector.
And, the seller said they’d kept it in their private collection for several years, too.
At the moment, there are several of these coins for sale online and they range between £160-£230 – and some have up to 40 people watching the listings.
However, there is one person starting bidding for £2,000.
Last year the coins made headlines for selling for triple figures, too.
And while you may believe you had one of these, and make a couple if hundred quid off it, be careful.
The Royal Mint released another batch of Kew Gardens’ coins in 2019 to celebrate 50 years of the 50p.
But they don’t fetch as much – they’re listed between £70-£80 on eBay.
