AMAZON, John Lewis and Very are set to drop a whopping 8,000 consoles this weekend, compared to their usual supply of 5,000, according to reports.

PS5UPDATEUK posted on Twitter: “Amazon is expecting around 8K stock to be delivered this weekend.

“There may be more shipment deliveries made that I don’t know other than this.

“8K might sound small to you, but Amazon have always released under 5K stock each restock, so this shows an increase in supply.”

And there are rumours from stock tracking sites claiming consoles will land at Very and John Lewis by the end of the week too – although, as always, nothing is guaranteed.

Stock insiders such as PS5 UK Stock – Instant Updates understands GAME, John Lewis, Very, and Asda will put up more consoles for sale sometime mid next week.

Amazon is “likely to drop mid-week based on a drop pattern,” according to @PS5UKStock on Twitter.

But that’s just a rumour at this stage!

  • AMAZON DROP COULD BE THIS WEEKEND OR NEXT WEEK

Rumours are continuing to circulate that Amazon could be set to have a large drop of PS5 consoles as early as this weekend – but could also come next week.

Reports say the online retail could have as many as 8,000 consoles to off load but when exactly this will happen is uncertain.

One stock tracker @PS5StockAlertUK on Twitter said: “News: Amazon is expecting around 8K stock to be delivered this weekend. There may be more shipment deliveries made that I don’t know other than this.

“8K might sound small to you, but Amazon have always released under 5K stock each restock, so this shows an increase in supply.”

  • UK GAMING MARKET HIT RECORD £7BN IN 2020 DURING LOCKDOWN BOOM

Video gaming in the UK was boosted by the arrival of a “new console generation” last year as the market surged to a record £7billion.

Players pushed the sector’s value up 29.9% compared to 2019 with increases across both digital and physical sales, according to a report by gaming industry body Ukie.

Digital sales took the lion’s share totalling £3.90 billion, with digital console revenues rising 24.2%, mobile games up by 21.3% and digital PC adding 14.8%.

Despite store closures as the UK went in and out of lockdown, traditional boxed game titles also climbed by 7.1% to £646 million, but pre-owned game-buying took a hit, diving 22.8% compared to the year before.

Gaming hardware raked in £2.26 billion, thanks partly to new launches of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, with console hardware alone making up £853 million of that figure, up 74.8%

Game’s next batch of PS5 stock is rumoured to be on the way, with a drop possibly arriving “next week”, says Twitter tipster @Ps5Instant.

It adds that Currys is “selecting more via priority pass”.

Meanwhile, there are hopes that Very, John Lewis along with Amazon will drop next week – but nothing is guaranteed at this stage.

  • CURRYS PC WORLD ANNOUNCES ‘PS5 VIP PASS’

The UK retailer has announced what it calls the “PS5 VIP Pass,” which is pretty much a lottery system.

How it works is that when the retailer has new stock, it will send – some – PS5 VIP Pass holders buying codes via email.

These codes are valid for up to 72 hours and guarantee the customer a console.

Those who aren’t sent codes will remain in the lottery pool for future restocks.

Registering for a pass is free and the company is currently taking applications.

  • PS5 SALES SCAM

THE Twitter accounts of a top NHS boss were hacked to promote a PlayStation 5 sales scam.

Helen Bevan, who is chief transformation officer of NHS Horizons, saw her two accounts broken into and used to flog fake PS5 listings.

She has now regained control of the accounts, which had a combined follower count of more than 140,000, the BBC reported over the weekend.

Helen said that dozens of people had sent her direct messages claiming to have fallen for the scam, which made fake offers of PS5 stock.

Sony’s console remains sold out at most retailers, spawning a wave of scams targeting gamers who are desperate to get their hands on the £449 machine.

  • MUM & KIDS ACCUSED OF STEALING PS5

A mum and her two sons were arrested after alleged stolen items, including a PlayStation 5, were found in a car, reports Derbyshire Live.

They were nabbed in Ilkeston following a report from Nottinghamshire police.

The Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit tweeted that the vehicle was allegedly “involved in a burglary”.

The “mother and her two adult sons from Stoke on Trent” were in the vehicle along with an allegedly “stolen iPad, PlayStation 5 and other items. All arrested,” the force tweeted.

  • INDEPENDENT ‘HADES’ DOMINATES BAFTA GAMES AWARDS

A video game from an independent developer, Hades, dominated Britain’s Bafta Games Awards on Thursday, triumphing over Sony’s hotly tipped The Last of US Part II.

The prestigious BAFTA awards for cinema and television introduced prizes for the best video games in 2004, a decade before the launch of the main US awards ceremony, the Game Awards.

Hades, a role-playing game for PC and Nintendo Switch developed by the small independent Californian studio Supergiant Games, won five of its nine nominations at a ceremony held entirely online for the second year running due to the pandemic.

The game set in the world of Greek mythology and featuring 3D isometric graphics also carried off the awards for artistic achievement, game design and narrative and performer in a supporting role.

  • CHINA TO GET PS5 LATER IN SPRING

Sony Entertainment has announced that the PS5 will hit shelves in mainland China sometime between April and June of this year.

  • PS5 CHIP MAKERS STILL STRUGGLING TO KEEP PACE WITH DEMAND

The PS5 shortage could get worse as chip-makers struggle to meet demand, warn industry insiders.

Sony’s PlayStation 5 has been largely out of stock since November – and might not be widely available until July.

Much of this is being blamed on a global “crisis” in the computer chip world.

Demand for chips is through the roof, and suppliers can’t keep pace.

Prices of chips are rising as a result, and major manufacturers like Apple and Samsung are being prioritised.

  • AMAZON DROP COULD BE THIS WEEKEND OR NEXT WEEK

  • SUEZ CANAL BLOCKAGE TO SLOW DOWN PS5 STOCK FURTHER

Mammoth container vessel Ever Given continues to block the Suez Canal, “and it could have a huge impact on PS5 and Xbox Series X and Series S stock,” warns Laptop mag.

The site adds: “Next-gen consoles were already hard to come by, and this won’t make it any easier.

“We could see a big impact on PS5, Xbox Series X, and other consumer tech stocks, which are already in scarce supply.
