Private astronauts were blasted on Friday to the International Space Station on one of Elon Musk’s rockets, as space companies continue to test demand for commercial missions to orbit.

Axiom Space Inc., a Houston company led by a former National Aeronautics and Space Administration space-station executive, arranged the mission, selling tickets and hiring Mr. Musk’s SpaceX to transport the quartet. Axiom has said the flight would be the first all-private mission to the space station.
