Yvette Cooper says home secretary has failed to tackle systemic and cultural issues within the force

Priti Patel, the UK home secretary, has been accused by her Labour counterpart of bearing some responsibility for the public’s lack of trust in the police in the wake of last week’s resignation of the UK’s top officer.

Yvette Cooper, the shadow home secretary, said Patel had been “silent” on policing for a year while failing to implement reforms or defend the model of policing by consent.
