It comes after the chain said it would open 50 new stores by the end of September this year.

Some of the stores include old premises that have relocated or existing stores that have expanded.

Stores opening up in Ipswich, Selby, Pontefract, Cardiff and Stafford will be “destination” stores and carry the widest range of products.

The expansion of the chain will create up to 800 new jobs across locations in high streets, shopping centres and retail parks.

The retailer has also just announced that it will be lowering the price of many of its big brand family products to the £1 price point from today.

The move will see big selling lines come down in price with many items at over a third less than their RRP.

Examples of items falling from £1.25 to £1 include Dettol surface wipes, Harpic cleaning gels, Johnsons cotton buds, Nivea shower creams and Lynx deodorant.

This comes as Poundland released research showing that despite inflation falling to 7.9% in June, customers are still concerned about making ends meet.
