Conservatives expected to lose two seats on day UK economy was announced to be in recession
Polls have closed in two byelections where Labour is seeking to take seats from Rishi Sunak’s Conservative party.
In Wellingborough in Northamptonshire, the Tories were defending a majority of more than 18,000; and in Kingswood in South Gloucestershire its majority from the 2019 general election was more than 11,000.
