Labour leader says government must act urgently on issues of women’s safety

Keir Starmer has said the killing of Sarah Everard “must be a turning point in how we tackle violence against women and girls”, comparing it to the “watershed moments” after the murders of Stephen Lawrence and James Bulger.

Starmer said women felt unsafe on streets at night and he called for the criminalisation of street harassment and a toughening of the law on stalking.
