Scott Morrison defends defence minister over comments he says were made in private and in the heat of the moment

Scott Morrison has defended his besieged defence minister for comments she made referring to her former staffer Brittany Higgins a “lying cow” as something said in the heat of the moment, in a private setting.

Morrison did not attempt to deny a report in the Australian that Linda Reynolds referred to Higgins as a “lying cow” in her office in front of current staff on 15 February. The newspaper reported that the derogatory observation was made in the open part of the office, and that staff later expressed concern about it. Reynolds later apologised to her staff.
