Both versions of the tale are set in a hostile, post-pandemic world, where Joel and Ellie are brought together by desperate circumstances and forced to rely on each other to survive a brutal journey across what remains of the US.

The Last of Us Remastered boasts a score of 95 on Metacritic, a score compiled via the opinions of both players and professional reviewers.

“A post-apocalyptic road trip that offers a fantastic, riveting experience, where destruction and beauty, and hope and despair, get entwined in a way that’s nothing short of genius,” said a review from Cubed3.

“The Last of Us is so good that its somewhat repetitive, and occasionally dull gameplay isn’t enough to rob it of its rightful place amongst the video game greats.”

A separate review from GamingTrend added: “The Last of Us is truly the game of a generation, and the Remastered edition brings the harrowing adventure to a whole new generation with expert style.”

The one-player title was initially released in 2013, but remastered for PS4 a year later in 1080p HD graphics quality.

The remastered edition includes a prequel chapter called Left Behind, where players can explore Ellie’s past.

It also includes eight new multiplayer maps and a harder single-player difficulty mode.
