PLAYSTATION fans have noticed a release date for the next generation of console, the PlayStation 6.
So far fans have had to predict a release date based on previous PlayStation console releases.
However, there has been very little real information about what the pipeline for the release would look like.
A lot of new information has come out via the Activision Blizzard court case, which will decide if Microsoft can buy the publisher.
As the company behind huge series like Call of Duty and Diablo, there are worries about Microsoft making these series exclusive.
As part of the court case, Sony submitted documents which say that the Microsoft deal would hurt PlayStation’s sales.
In the documents, it discusses the launch date that Sony has planned for its next-generation console.
Page 9 of the official court documents read: “Microsoft has offered to continue making Activision’s games available on PlayStation only until 2027”.
These documents are now outdated and Microsoft has since signed a 10-year deal with PlayStation.
However, 2027 was the end date of the original deal at the time the document was written.

It continues: “By the time Sony International Entertainment launches the next generation of its PlayStation console (which is likely to occur around [redacted]),
“it would have lost access to Call of Duty and other Activision titles, making it extremely vulnerable to consumer switching and subsequent degradation in its competitiveness.”
While the exact planned date for the PlayStation 6’s release has been redacted, we know it is in 2027 at the earliest.
This lines up with previously predicted results, which put the most likely date around the holiday season of 2027.
It could be that Sony puts a later release date, so that the launch comes after the original agreement’s end.
This would make Sony’s case stronger, but it seems either way that it will be a long time before we get our hands on the next generation.
