PEOPLE are only just realising how to get a takeaway from Toby Carvery for as little £2.29.

You can do it via Too Good To Go – the surplus food app that dishes out leftover stock from supermarkets, bakeries and restaurants that would otherwise go in the bin.

Here's how to get a Toby Carvery meal for just £2.29

Shoppers on Facebook group Latest Deals, Extreme Couponing and Bargains Group have discussed how to get a Toby Carvery meal using the app.

One savvy saver replied to a post asking about Too Good To Go with: “The carvery ones are worth it”.

To which someone else replied: “I thought they would be .. I’m going to try again one day this week lol”.

And someone else said: “If you can get a breakfast one they are nice too”.

The franchise offers customers a Vegetarian Carvery Magic Bag for £2.29 off the app, which is a meat-free dinner for one with all the trimmings from the restaurant.

The meal would normally cost £6, so you’re saving £3.71.

Keep in mind the food might not be as fresh as it would be if you ordered off Deliveroo or dined in the restaurant, but it’s a good idea if you’re on a budget.

If you’re not vegetarian, you can opt for the Roast Carvery Magic Bag which will set you back £3.29.

This is just a single roast dinner with all the trimmings, and it’s normally worth £8.

There’s also a breakfast option you can pick – the Breakfast Surprise Bag costs £2.79 and contains a selection of sausage, bacon, fried egg, mushrooms, baked beans, hash brown, potato hash and tomatoes.

A big breakfast meal like this would normally cost £6.99.

But remember each magic bag will be different – it all depends what hasn’t sold by the end of the day.

How do I get food from Too Good To Go?

You first of all need to download the app and sign up – which is free to do.

You’ll need to go on the App Store or Google Play, install it and then quickly punch in your email address.

Once done, you need to set your location to choose from nearby stores listing their unsold food at a reduced price.

Listings show how much a bag of food costs and how many are left as well as where you need to pick it up.

The items in the “magic bag” are always different as it depends on what hasn’t sold so there is no guarantee that you will like what you get.

But there are plenty of tasty brands to try such as Greggs, Morrisons, Pret, and Costa.

What other meals can I get?

When we swept through the app, we found Barburrito offer meals for £6, normally worth £18.

So that’s a whopping £12 cheaper.

The meals include two burritos or bowls served with a filling and selection of ingredients – whatever happens to be available at the time of order.

But you can choose between a meat or vegan surprise bag so you won’t get any unwanted ingredients.

The chain also offers a dessert magic bag for £3 instead of £9.

These include two portions of either churros, brownies or mini doughnuts.

Elsewhere, a surprise bag from M&S costs £4.99 for an assortment of groceries, sandwiches, ready meals, baked goods or cupboard produce.

A similar selection would usually set you back £15.

However, there’s no guarantee how much food you’ll get or whether it’ll be an equal selection of all M&S stock.

Again, it very much depends on what’s available by the time you order it.

And you might have different restaurant and supermarket options to someone else depending on where you live – there may not be a Barburrito option, for example, if there isn’t a branch close by.

How else can I get cheap food?

Many supermarkets have loyalty schemes and coupons that can give shoppers the chance to get some rewards after a few weeks or months.

For example, this year Sainsbury’s started a new “Nectar Prices” initiative to rival Tesco’s Clubcard deals, while Tesco has reduced the value of its loyalty rewards.

The savings can be huge.

Tesco claims its Clubcard prices can save shoppers up to £351 a year, while £40 spent per week on Iceland’s Bonus Card means a bonus of £104 per year.

If you want help finding the best loyalty schemes out there, take a look at our guide.

Also, there is always the opportunity to look for stickered items at the end of each day at the supermarket.

These are reduced items normally near their sell-by date.

For an idea of when to visit each supermarket to find the biggest selection of yellow stickers, we wrote a roundup.

Elsewhere, cashback sites have amazing freebies for new customers, such as a takeaway from Just Eat or a Benefit beauty product.
