WI-FI users have been informed of an update that could enhance their router’s connection.

People who use Windows 10 and older operating systems may not be able to use Wi-Fi 7 when it comes out, Tech Radar reported.

Due to arrive in late 2024, Wi-Fi 7 is expected to provide users with advanced data transmission speed and stability.

Most routers at the moment use Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 5, which is significantly slower.

However, if Windows users want to access the greater speeds when it is available they will need to update their OS to Windows 11.

That’s because Windows 10 lacks a “driver certified by Microsoft,” one X user explained in a tweet of an Intel document.

“Qualcomm and MediaTek Wi-Fi 7 don’t support Windows 10 either. Microsoft limits Wi-Fi 7 to Windows 11 only,” the tweet continued.

“Although I do not condone this, Windows 10 support period is already ending in less than 2 years, so yeah,” one X user replied.

“Until the revealed W11, all the updates on W11 we could have gotten to W10 instead of a new operating system!!” another disappointed user said.

Meanwhile, some X users defended Intel’s decision, with one person tweeting: “Windows 10 22H2, released October 22, was the last feature update for Windows 10.

“Windows 10 development is officially discontinued, why do you expect it to get further feature updates?”

Still, despite users’ loyalty to Windows 10, they are encouraged to update to Windows 11 – if only to get a faster Wi-Fi connection.

HOW TO UPDATE

To check if Windows 11 is ready for your device, go to Start > Settings.

From there, scroll down to Update & Security and then tap on Windows Update.

Select Check for updates. If an upgrade is available for your device, you should see it here.

To proceed, press download and install the new software. Follow any further on-screen instructions.
