APPLE has just shared some of the most common iPhone ‘water mistakes’ that can ruin devices forever, including a scenario that’s surprisingly easy to encounter.

Apple explains that while some of their devices are splash, water, and dust resistant, these defenses might decrease as the phone is exposed to more and more harmful agents.

While smartphones are more resistant to water than previous generations, significant water damage can still ruin your device

The list was published by Apple Support and provides comprehensive information on how to care for your iPhone.

It claims that water should always be kept away from any device openings, including speakers and the charging port.

They also explain that moisture should be cleaned off of the device with a soft and lint-free cloth, especially if you’re going to open the SIM tray.

Some of the most harmful agents that the iPhones can be exposed to include “salt water, soapy water, pool water, perfume, insect repellent, lotion, sunscreen,” and more.

Apple explains that liquid damage isn’t covered by any kind of Apple coverage, meaning that if the phone is exposed, it’s likely lost forever.

The company listed some scenarios that people should avoid when using their smartphones:

  • Swimming and bathing
  • Exposing the phone to pressurized water

  • Using it in the sauna or steam room
  • Submerging it in water
  • Operating it in humid conditions

While most of these seem simple to avoid, humid conditions are difficult to control.

Apple users on Reddit have long complained about these issues, claiming that humid conditions should be covered by insurance, since it’s not within the user’s control.

“Apple’s policy doesn’t allow for variables; it’s a common complaint and doesn’t have a good fix,” wrote someone on the Reddit board.

“Humidity and condensation can absolutely trip LCI’s inside a phone or even cause corrosion on a mainboard, but Apple’s policy is a blanket one: if it’s liquid damage, it’s on you.”
