People are just realising three iPhone travel hacks that make holidaying so much easier

THE holiday season is finally upon us.

While it’s best practice to print a copy of everything and learn bits of the language before you dash off – an iPhone can be a lifeline while travelling abroad.

So, here’s three iPhone tricks that will make holidaying this summer much easier.

Digital boarding pass

iPhone owners can keep an extra copy of their flight ticket inside their Apple wallet.

A smartphone is much less likely to fly out of your backpack when sprinting through an airport, unlike a paper boarding pass.

To download a digital version of your ticket on your iPhone, simply follow these steps:

1. Download or update the app for your specific airline and open it.
2. Check in to your flight.
3. Once checked in, the app should take you to your boarding pass.
4. When you have your boarding pass, you should see a plus button nearby to Add to Apple Wallet Tap on it.
5. Then tap on Add.
6. It will now be in your Apple Wallet. You can access it through the app, or on your homescreen when it’s time for your flight.

But remember: having a print copy of everything is important, as some countries don’t have yet have fully digitised airports like in the UK and US.

Send your location via satellite

Whether you’re travelling solo or as a family, it’s nice to let loved ones know where you are and can be critical in times of need.

Most iPhone owners can share their location easily via the in-house Find My app, or alternatively, WhatsApp.

But if you have an iPhone 14 or iPhone 14 Pro, then you can share your location by satellite instead.

This means friends and family can know where you are when you don’t have signal or access to Wi-Fi, which is essential if you’re travelling in less touristy areas.

It should be noted, however, that you’ll have to set this up before you travel, or hit a cellular and Wi-Fi free zone.

To switch on satellite location services, follow these instructions:

1. Open the Find My app.
2. Tap the Me tab and turn on Share My Location.
3. Next add contacts you want to share your location with.
4. Then when you’re in a location without any coverage, return to this screen and select Send My Location in the section My Location via Satellite.

Translate text

As mentioned before, it’s always a good idea to learn parts of the language native to where you’re travelling.

A handful of phrases is always helpful, and doesn’t take long to learn.

But if you’re not a natural linguist, or are simply out of your depth – your iPhone can act as your own personal translator, without you having to type everything into an app.

All you need to do is wave your iPhone camera over foreign words, be it a menu or sign, and the device will tell you in your home language.

To access this feature, follow these pointers:

1. Open the Camera app and point your camera at the text you want to translate.
2. When a yellow box appears around it, tap the Live Text icon.
3. Next, swipe and tap any text or choose Select All.
4. Just tap Translate and you’ll then be able to read the words in English.
