IF you forget your iPhone passcode, it’s not the end for your handset.

Even if a pop-up says that your iPhone is disabled, you can still restore it to how it was before you got locked out.

Of course, it does depend on you keeping your iPhone backed up.

Otherwise restoring it will mean you having to set it up as brand new again.

If you have iCloud back-ups turned on, you’ll be able to wipe your locked device and restore it to its pre-locked condition.

The process is very quick and simple, and it’s the official Apple method for restoring a locked iPhone – so you don’t have to worry about breaking any rules.

How to recover your iPhone

You’ll need a Mac or PC to perform the restoration process.

If you’re on a PC, it needs to be running Microsoft Windows 10 or later and have iTunes installed.

You’ll also need a cable that can connect your iPhone to your computer.

Next, unplug your iPhone and turn it off.

Now you’ll need to put your iPhone in Recovery Mode.

You’ll need to press and hold the following button:

  • Face ID iPhones – the Side button that locks your phone
  • Home button iPhones – the Volume Down button
  • iPhone SE 1st-gen and iPhone 6S or earlier – the Home button

Press this button while immediately connecting your iPhone to the computer.

Don’t let go of it until you see the Recovery Mode screen on your iPhone.

If you see the passcode screen, turn your iPhone off and start again.

Now look for your iPhone in the Mac Finder or in iTunes on your computer.

Choose Restore when you’re given the option to Restore or Update.

Your computer will then download software and restore it to a like-new condition.

Once the process is complete, disconnect your iPhone from the computer.

Then you can either set the iPhone up as new or restore it from a back-up.
