Pearson stunned investors with a surprise deal with the former manager of the Spice Girls.

The education publisher wants to transform from a maker of dusty old textbooks to a Netflix-for-learning style business.

Pearson has teamed up with Simon Fuller’s XIX Entertainment to create a course called Academy of Pop that will teach customers how to become pop stars.

The course – which will begin next year – will feature acting, dancing, music, and musical theatre lessons.

The Academy of Pop is part of a push by Pearson to get into the self-improvement and more casual learning market.

It will compete with the likes of Masterclass, where well known experts teach everything from cooking to rock climbing.
