Kyiv and its allies suggest the Kremlin may be merely playing for time to allow its military forces to regroup

Peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv will resume on Friday, a senior Ukrainian negotiator has said, amid mounting western scepticism about Russia’s true intentions five weeks into its invasion of Ukraine.

Ukrainian negotiator David Arakhamia said on Thursday that talks would continue by video, focusing on a written framework for peace the Ukrainian side presented during a face-to-face meeting in Istanbul this week that Russian officials described as constructive.
