If YOU’RE an avid WhatsApp users you’ve probably heard that millions of devices will lose access to the chatting app next month.

However, all is not lost for every device on a viral ‘hit list’ as several of the smartphones can be updated so WhatsApp can continue to work.

How to keep WhatsApp working

Android devices will need to be running software that’s newer than Android 4.0.4.

Apple devices will need to be running software that’s newer than iOS 9.

If you have an older device then you should check if you can update it.

According to The Mirror, the iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus and iPhone SE are all on the list of phones that WhatsApp will stop working on.

However, all three of those iPhones can be updated to iOS 15 and should therefore still allow WhatsApp to work after the November 1 deadline.

If you’ve never updated your iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus or iPhone SE (2016) – or iPhone 5 and iPhone 6 variants – you’ll lose access until you update.

That’s because they launched on iOS 9 or older.

What if my phone is too old?

The only other and much more pricey alternative is to buy a newer device that can download the newer software needed to keep WhatsApp running.

If you get a new device, install WhatsApp and register your phone number.

Remember, WhatsApp can only be activated with one phone number on one device at any one time.

A WhatsApp spokesperson previously explained: “The way people use devices is constantly changing, so we regularly review ageing hardware models and software and will periodically withdraw ongoing support for the very oldest systems with the fewest users.

“Over the coming year, we’ll inform the very small group of people using Android OS 4.0.4 that they will need to upgrade to a supported operating system to continue using WhatsApp.”
