HOMEOWNERS are fuming as eyesore homes, abandoned buildings and closed down schools ruin their famous town.

Hollywood superstars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney may have put Wrexham the on the map – but locals are still desperate to see change.

One major blot on the landscape are the derelict homes on a housing development that was left to fall by the wayside.

For nearly a decade, four unfinished plots have sat abandoned and crumbling, as reported by NorthWalesLive.

The properties have now been listed at auction which offers some hope the land will be put to good use.

But, a massive slag heap piled high with dirt, rock and mud, still presents a huge battle for residents.

The six million tonne Bersham Colliery mound, has sat untouched since 2010, despite talks to remove it.

At present there are still no active plans to tackle the eyesore, much to homeowners dismay.

Elsewhere in Wrexham, residents are also complaining about the former Groves High School.

It had been given the go-ahead to be demolished in 2016, with plans to make way for two new schools – but since then nothing has happened.

The dated building lies empty and unused, as locals campaign to attract new hope for it’s future.

As mentioned previously, Hollywood Wrexham AFC owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney promised to renovate the Kop Stand when they took over the club in 2021.

Since the £2million deal, Wrexham’s value has tripled as their profile grew incredibly after the new owners arrived.

Wrexham could now be worth £8million, claim Saxo Bank, a 300 per cent increase in just three years.

Transforming the stadium was one of their five pledges and now, two years later, demolition has begun.

A management plan for the development has been submitted for a new 5,500 seater stand, which will reportedly cost £80million to build.

They hope to have the work, half financed by public funding, completed by the 2024-25 football season.

This comes as Wrexham are lining up a move for former Manchester United wonderkid Nick Powell.

Powell, 29, made headlines when Sir Alex Ferguson signed the midfielder from Crewe Alexandra for £6million 11 years ago.

Now, Reynolds and McElhenney are reportedly looking at snapping up the player as a free agent.

Plus, Ben Foster revealed how the superstar owners “pinned him into a corner” to convince him to sign a new deal.

The goalkeeper signed for Wrexham on a short-term deal last season and played eight games during the run-in.

Earlier this month he penned a new one-year deal and is already targeting promotion to League One.
