A FAMILY is outraged after their £600,000 newbuild dream home turned into a “living nightmare” – as they’re living on a building site.

David Walker and his family claim the issues are so severe they have been forced to move out of their Devizes house, in Wiltshire, three times since moving in last year.

The fuming 52-year-old has blasted Ashford Homes for leaving his wife and two children without proper flooring, wall ties, insulation and leaks.

To make matters worse, they are dodging ugly scaffolding covering their property every day – which has also left them without any natural light.

He claimed to be locked in a “constant fight” with the developer to see any resolution to his complaints – however a spokesman stated they were “currently directly addressing isolated issues”.

A fed-up David said: “There are major issues with the house because of poor workmanship.

“There are no wall ties, insulation is missing, the floors aren’t level and we’ve had leaks.”

When scaffolding was put up around their property in January this year, their issues only increased.

Now the family-of-four feel as though they’re living on a building site with constant construction noise.

The heavy disruption has meant forgoing any garden activities – a major issue for the Walkers over the summer.

They have also waved goodbye to any prospect of entertaining due to the high level of noise.

“Everything that could possibly go wrong has gone wrong, it’s absolutely horrendous because we’ve got no natural light and we can’t do anything in the garden,” David added.

“We can’t have friends round or entertain, or even put the washing out because it’s just banging all day.”

The builder claimed their “dream home” has turned into nothing but a “living nightmare”.

This has only been made worse by the fact no date has been set for the building work to finish.

A spokesperson for the developer, Ashford Homes, said: “Ashford Homes is currently directly addressing isolated issues that have been identified at our Maton Close development.

There are no wall ties, insulation is missing, the floors aren’t level and we’ve had leaks.”

“Whilst certain aspects of the build do not meet the company’s exacting standards, all properties have been inspected and signed off by Building Control and benefit from a ten-year structural warranty from a leading provider who have also inspected and signed the property off.

“Ashford Homes is proud of its long-established reputation and has worked closely with this particular resident, engaging with them in remedying the issues, and we look forward to completing the remedial works to the high standards that both we, and our client, rightly expect.”

The Sun Online has contacted Ashford Homes for comment.

This comes as other families across the UK have battled with their own newbuild nightmares.

Including the Cooks, from Grimsby, Lincolnshire, who say their £345,000 forever home has turned into a house from hell.

Since moving in in December, the Cooks have found one issue after another, but say that “nobody has done anything” to help them.

They claim the property is a “living nightmare” as problems including mouldy walls and holes in the roof pile up.

Meanwhile, in Nottinghamshire, homeowner have claimed that their dream newbuilds have become a nightmare as plans to build a warehouse and car park nearby have been put forward.

Plus, residents who were promised “stunning” £400k homes in a housing development have been left fuming.

Many of those who bought the expensive properties on the edge of Birmingham now wish they could have their money back after facing hundreds of problems.

What are your rights

All new build homes come with some form of warranty.

Most often, this is a builder warranty of around 10 years, against structural issues, and a shorter developer warranty against issues with fixtures and fittings.

Registered builders are bound by a Consumer Code, which sets out quality standards.

If the house is not complete at the time it was promised, the customer can cancel the purchase, with a full refund of any deposit or reservation fee.

Complaints can be resolved privately with builders/developers in the first instance.

However, if you are not satisfied, there is an independent dispute scheme that can be used within the first three months of receiving the final response to the complaint from the builders.
