ONEPLUS has unveiled its latest flagship-busting smartphone.

Out next week, the £399 OnePlus Nord 2 5G boasts a powerful camera and display, as well as the ability to charge from 0 to 100 per cent in 35 minutes.

Those features promise to make the mobile a fierce competitor against affordable options offered by phone giants like Samsung and Apple.

The Nord 2 focuses on offering better cameras, a high-quality screen and battery life to appeal to social media fans.

Mid-range smartphones have become increasingly popular in recent years as technological advances have made high-end features accessible beyond just £1,000 flagship devices.

As a result, many people choose to hold on to their phone for longer because of the rising costs.

OnePlus, based in Shenzhen, China, announced the Nord 2 on Thursday during a virtual event livestreamed to fans around the globe.

While a little thin on truly flagship features, the mobile stacks up pretty well considering its price tag.

It’s got a triple rear camera system fronted by a 50-megapixel main snapper and an 8MP ultrawide lens. There’s a 32MP selfie camera, too.

OnePlus said it has boosted the amount of light that hits the camera sensor and improved its ability to take photos in the dark compared with last year’s Nord 1.

The new phone’s charging capabilities have also been bolstered.

Using OnePlus’s Warp Charge 65 charger – which comes in the box – the phone’s 4,500mAh battery can fully charge in less than 35 minutes.

That’s a big improvement on affordable mobiles like the iPhone SE or the Samsung Galaxy A52.

Like the company’s previous phones, the Nord 2 also leans heavily on its display technology.

It’s got a 6.43-inch fluid AMOLED screen with a 90 Hz refresh rate – not bad at all for a phone priced at less than £400.

In Europe, Nord 2 comes in two colours: Blue Haze and Gray Sierra.

It’s out July 27 and starts at £399, rising to £469 for a version with higher RAM and memory options.

“The OnePlus Nord 2 5G reaffirms our commitment to sharing great technology with the world,” OnePlus founder Pete Lau said.

“With advancements in smartphone technologies even in the mid-range, we are now able to deliver premium experiences on more accessible devices.”
