On the Beach is suing Ryanair for £2.3m over money owed for flight cancellations during the pandemic.

The online travel agent claims it refunded customers whose package bookings were scrapped when the flights, arranged through the Irish no-frills airline, were grounded.

In documents submitted to the High Court, the company alleges Ryanair has still not paid for these refunds, despite it being part of the airline’s own policy, and industry regulations, to do so.

Ryanair has until mid-December to file its defence, but it can request an extension. Many Britons were left in the lurch during the pandemic as airlines and travel companies, ill-equipped to process masses of refunds, were required to reimburse bookings for thousands of holidays.

On the Beach brought another lawsuit against Ryanair in October, when it accused the carrier of preventing it from booking seats on flights on behalf of its customers, as well as making them go through costly and onerous check-in procedures. On the Beach shares fell 0.5 per cent yesterday.
