Nick Hungerford, who has died at 43, was a force for good in the investment world.

Together with William Todd, Nick founded online investment platform Nutmeg in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis.

Its premise was built around providing investors with simple, transparent investment products at low cost.

Nutmeg was something of an investment pioneer and although it never made profits as an independent business, US investment giant JPMorgan was so impressed, it acquired the company for a small fortune two years ago, keeping the brand intact.

Before Nick died, he founded charity Elizabeth’s Smile with his wife Nancy.

Named after their two-year-old daughter, the charity’s mission is to help children cope with grief triggered by the death of a parent. Details on elizabeth.org.
