The resumption of natural-gas supplies from Russia via the Nord Stream pipeline early on Thursday brought short-term relief to European energy firms and industries that rely on the fuel to power their factories.

Even so, some companies in energy-intensive industries, such as chemical and glass production, are still busy drafting plans to reduce their dependence on Russian gas, with the threat of Moscow curtailing or ending gas flows in the months ahead still hanging over Europe.
