They can save you so much time, saving you from mashing buttons to get what you want done.

“Just tell your Alexa device what you want to do, and Alexa completes the action directly on your Fire TV–no remote needed,” Amazon explained.

There are two ways to control your Fire TV with Alexa.

The first is to use an Alexa Voice Remote (by pressing the microphone/Alexa button), which comes with some Fire TV devices as standard.

And the second is to link your Alexa gadget (like an Amazon Echo) to a Fire TV device.

How to link your Alexa device

If you want to do the latter, it only takes a few seconds.

“For the devices to pair properly and work together, your Alexa device and Fire TV must be registered to the same account,” Amazon noted.

“You can link multiple Alexa devices to the same Fire TV. Not all features are supported on Echo Show devices or for a paired Fire TV Cube.”

ALEXA, HELP!

Amazon has revealed several Alexa commands that you should definitely try.

For a start, you can instantly navigate to a piece of content by saying “Alexa, watch [title]”, and you can even specify the app that it’s on.

You can also say “Alexa, show me [movies] with [actor]” to get a list of films featuring your favorite star.

Another great option for anyone on a budget is to ask: “Alexa, search for free movies.”

You can even ask Alexa to scroll in a certain direction and select or play a certain item on-screen (for instance, try, “Alexa, play number six,” on a list of titles).

Alexa will let you use voice commands to head back to the home screen or your video library – and even select a specific row number.

You can ask Alexa, “Play this movie,” and even say, “Watch trailer,” to get a taste for what you’re looking at.

A very useful trick is to ask Alexa to jump forward or backward in a movie by an amount of time – or even request a specific moment, like “two minutes in.”

You can also make generic Alexa requests like asking about the weather, checking for nearby restaurants, or seeing your Alexa To-Do List.

Amazon adds new Alexa tricks all the time, so be sure to experiment every so often to see what works.
