NINTENDO is known for its amazing first-party series, with iconic names such as Mario, Zelda, and Pokémon all exclusive to its consoles.
However, not all of the series are this long lasting, and people are often begging Nintendo to bring back their favourites.
While this is sometimes a double-edged sword like we saw with the return of Star Fox in the Wii U era, people still ask for their favourites to return.
Star Fox Zero was a disappointment to fans, but people from other fandoms still hope that there are high-quality games coming for their series.
It’s now F-Zero’s time to shine, as Nintendo announced during the September 2023 Nintendo Direct that a new F-Zero game was launching for free.
Nintendo Online subscribers can play F-Zero 99 as part of the subscription, and it is the first F-Zero game to be released in 19 years.
Based on the original F-Zero game for the SNES, this brings battle royale-style gameplay to the classic racing formula.
The twist for this new game is that 99 players will compete on the track at once in high-speed races.
Players have to balance preserving their health to take hits, or using it to boost around the track.
Reception to the release has been positive, and many people have been joining in matches since its release.

There are a number of games which have been reimagined in this battle royale-style.
Tetris 99 was the original game in this format and is still popular with the community online.
Super Mario Bros. 35 was released in 2020, for the 35th anniversary of the series.
Unfortunately, servers for that game shut down after celebrations ended, despite its popularity.
Not all of these games have been popular as we saw the end of Pac-Man 99 earlier this year.
