Exclusive: Home Office criticised as figures show 3,632 applicants were turned down and 314 returned

Nine in every 10 people who were refused asylum by the Home Office two years ago were free to remain in the country, an analysis has found.

The disclosure has fuelled claims that Priti Patel’s plan to send asylum seekers to Rwanda is failing to address fundamental problems in the asylum system such as removals.
