While many subscribers were aware of the upcoming price hike, some were left with a shock after checking their bank accounts.

Customers complained they had been charged £15.99 for their monthly fee after being swapped over from their standard plans.

Netflix’s basic and standard plan prices are going up by £1 a month, to £6.99 and £10.99 respectively.

Subscribers will be also charged an extra £2 for the premium package, which will now cost £15.99 – but some Brits said they hadn’t signed up for this.

Money-saving expert Lynn Beattie, known as Mrs Mummypenny, described the issue as a “worrying concern”.

She wrote in the Mirror that a legion of her followers had raised concerns with her that they were being charged too much.

The mum explained: “Some of my followers say they were checking their Netflix accounts only to discover that they had been moved from cheaper basic and standard plans over to the premium plan.

“I shared this on my Facebook page and immediately got messages from followers upon checking that they had been unknowingly paying too much.”

Lynn’s post was inundated with comments from Netflix users who checked their transactions and claimed to find the same issue.

One wrote: “Thank you so much I had no idea I have been paying £15.99 for months.”

Another added: “I managed to change it after I had paid it for months!”

And a third chimed in: “Just changed mine back.”

After raising the issue with Netflix, they told the Mirror they would not change subscribers’ plan’s without their consent.

They said: “In order for a Netflix subscription plan change to happen, it must be confirmed by a person on the account.

“Netflix does not update a member’s plan without their explicit approval.
