NANDO’S fans can enjoy free chicken this month – but be careful before you order because there’s a catch.

The restaurant chain is known for its peri-peri style chicken and has over 450 restaurants operating within the UK.

Nando’s has gained a loyal army of fans who flock to the restaurants for bargain priced spicy (or not so spicy) chicken.

Customers can sign up for the Nando’s rewards card, which allows you to earn points, or chillies, which turn into “free peri-peri”.

And a select few can bag an even bigger bargain, for a limited time.

You can get a free quarter chicken or a starter – but you’ll need to be a student to be eligible.

I work at Greggs and there’s a reason your sausage rolls aren’t always hot

The freebie is worth £4.75 – the price of a quarter chicken.

Or you could could chose to get starter of halloumi sticks and dip, humous with Peri drizzle or sweet potato wedges for £4.25

Diners will need to prove they are a student who has just received the results of their A-Levels, GCSEs or equivalents (BTEC, Scotland Highers, or National 5’s).

To get the discount, you will need to visit a Nando’s restaurant, either to eat-in or walk-in collect for takeaway, and spend over £7 on food.

Orders must be made at the till and the discount will be added by a team member.

You can find your nearest Nando’s by using this store locator tool.

It is not available on delivery or click and collect orders.

Students between the ages of 14 and 19 will also have to show their ID and a copy of their results.

The deal will only be available between 11am and 11pm on the day results are handed out at schools and colleges.

A Level results day falls on Thursday, August 18 and GCSE students will get their results on Thursday, August 25.

The promotion must be used on these dates and it can only be used once.

NHS workers can also get 20% off food and drinks orders up to £20 at Nando’s.

How can I save money at Nando’s?

From ordering family platters to coming prepared with gift cards, you can keep more of your well-earned cash in your pocket at the restaurant.

If you are a Costco member, you can buy £40 worth of gift cards for £34.99 to use at Nando’s – which means you’re saving yourself just over £5.

Ordering a platter can help you to save £10.

The Family Platter at Nando’s costs £46.50 and feeds up to six people, including two whole chickens and five large sides.

Budget buster Charlotte Jessop, who runs the money saving blog  Looking After Your Pennies, says she saves £10.45 doing this instead of ordering individual meals for her and her family.

Tubs of “Perinaise”  will set you back 65p at the restaurant – and as it’s likely that you’ll order at least two, the extra cost all adds up.

But you can avoid forking out extra by making your own version in the restaurant.

One Nando’s fan has revealed that by adding medium sauce to a few sachets of mayo, which you’ll usually find by the cutlery, you’ll end up with something that tastes pretty similar.

Elsewhere, a fast food expert spoke to us and told us the hidden discounts at McDonald’s and more.
