A MYSTERIOUS island on Google Maps has got people debating what it is on social media.
One Reddit user posted a picture of the island on a popular Google Maps thread and exclaimed: “what the F*** this looks nothing like an island”.

Exact co-ordinates have not been given for the small almost triangular shaped land mass.
However, the Google Maps image provided by the concerned user is clear and shows water crashing onto the shoreline of the small location.
It’s quite dark and some users suspect it may have been censored as it doesn’t look like an ordinary Google Maps island.
One Reddit user said: “Looks censored for some reason.”
Another agreed: “My first thought was that it’s censored. It wouldn’t make sense for a natural formation to be black like that in such a shallow, small atoll/island”.
One person even joked: “Ladies and gentlemen, they have found the Island in “Lost”.”
However, one Google Maps fan thinks they have an explanation to the island’s strange appearance.
Reddit user goldenstar365 said: “Ok so the real answer is the blue color around the island is a painted-in color so the oceans look uniform in the maps.
“Islands are added by erasing some of that blue to let the satellite image show through.
“Sometimes they do a sloppy job. So what you are seeing moving inward is: artificial ocean color, real ocean with waves, beach, island. As for the shape, idk man islands come in all shapes and sizes I don’t discriminate”.
This could be an explanation or Google may have actually censored the island.
It’s not uncommon to find whole areas blacked out on Google Maps.
