AS Easter draws near, you’ll find chocolate eggs and bunny rabbits galore on supermarket shelves.

You may even spot the odd unicorn, chicken or dinosaur-themed egg.

Understandably most kids go absolutely bonkers for Easter so you’ll want to make sure you buy an egg that puts a smile on their face.

But with so many to chose from, how do you know which will most delight their eyes and tastebuds?

We asked mum-of-three Lynsey Hope, 41, to try out some of the best-selling eggs with her children Jacob, eight, Olive, five and Ivy, two.

Lynsey said: “What an important task for the kids. They couldn’t wait to tuck in and tell me which ones they liked best.”

Here they reveal their verdict…

John Lewis‘ egg is super pretty, the sprinkles create a rainbow design on the egg which would appeal to anyone young or old.

It’s made with Belgian milk chocolate and has a creamy taste and a great snap.

This Thorntons egg features a white chocolate dinosaur on the front of the creamy milk chocolate shell.

It looks great and is a must for any dinosaur fans.

If I’m being honest I did find the chocolate quite rich and the kids could only manage a little at a time, but they loved the design and eating it.

Smarties’ egg is basic but enough to make any child happy.

The Nestle chocolate egg tasted creamy and smooth and it had some delicious Smarties inside too.

Given a single tube of Smarties will set you back around 75p, you are getting the egg for 50p which seems like good value.

For kids who love drawing and colouring in, what could be better than an Easter egg they can decorate themselves?

This Crayola egg lets them do just that.

It comes with two tubes of coloured icing so creative children can decorate the milk chocolate egg with whatever design they wish.

It’s Kinnerton chocolate, which isn’t my favourite and this arty option made it expensive – costing more than £3 per 100g of chocolate – but the kids loved the novelty factor.

This is a really pretty egg from Sainsbsury’s, and really drew Olive’s eye.

The Belgian chocolate was delicious and creamy but the pink decoration and the rainbow sugar-coated sweets really made this stand out from the crowd and gave it some added pizzazz.

The box was colourful and fun and this is a really lovely gift that any child – or adult would be happy with.

Top marks from me and the kids.

M&S have a fab selection of chocolate animals on sale for Easter including Curly the cockapoo and Chocosaurus Rex.

They’re all a generous size ande made with responsibly sourced chocolate in plastic-free packaging if you want an eco-friendly choice.

Chickita, with her yellow beak and milk chocolate feathers, looked beautiful, almost too good to eat. But she didn’t disappoint in the mouth either.

The chocolate melted in the mouth and was creamy and delicious.

It wasn’t the biggest egg but it felt like good quality chocolate which we all enjoyed.

We had a stack of Easter eggs at home but it was this one my daughter Ivy, aged two, really wanted.

She’s a huge Paw Patrol fan so this ticked all the boxes for her and it’s a bargain price

You get a lovely amount of chocolate for your £1.25 so while it doesn’t taste as good as others, she was happy and this will last her a while.

A showstopping design from Aldi, the kids couldn’t wait to tuck in.

It’s topped with caramel-filled eggs which gave it the feel of an ice cream sundae.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the chocolate and thought it tasted like the cheap chocolate you might buy on holiday, but the kids said it was delicious.

Aldi is selling delicious milk chocolate egg decorated with bits of pretzel, honeycomb and marshmallow.

I reckon this is a lovely choice for older children.

The chocolate was light and smooth and the pieces gave it a really lovely texture.

Once the kids started tucking into this one it was gone in minutes. Yummy – and you’d pay a lot more for a similar egg from top brands.
