Luxury fashion brand Louis Vuitton has appointed singer and music producer Pharrell Williams as the new creative director of it menswear division. 

The 49-year-old Grammy winner will present his first collection in Paris in June. Louis Vuitton is the flagship brand of French luxury conglomerate LVMH which is run by Bernard Arnault, the world’s richest man. 

Williams’ appointment is one of the first moves by Pietro Beccari, the new chief executive who previously led fellow LVMH brand Dior.

Williams has attended Dior fashion shows and collaborated with Beccari on a jewellery collection. 

‘I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2006 for Louis Vuitton.

‘His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards a new, very exciting chapter,’ Beccari said on Instagram.

The star replaces Virgil Abloh, the first African-American to lead a major label at a European fashion house, who died in 2021. 

LVMH is looking to consolidate at the top of the luxury market by working with cultural influencers and artists to boost its popularity. 

It also owns brands like champagne maker Moet & Chandon, jeweller Tiffany and watchmaker TAG Heuer
