BRITAIN’S biggest supermarkets are changing their opening hours over the long Easter weekend, leaving shoppers unsure about when to shop.

Many retailers completely close on Easter Day, as well as operating reduced hours over the double bank holiday to give staff a well-deserved break.

Easter Day falls on Sunday April 9 in 2023, with a bank holiday for Good Friday on April 7 and another  bank holiday on the following Monday – April 10.

Morrisons shoppers will see the times they can head to their nearest store change over this period.

To find your nearest supermarket’s specific opening hours you can use the locator tool on the Morrisons website.

But times might change slightly from the norm over the bank holiday so we’ve rounded up everything you need to know.

Is Morrisons open over the Easter Bank Holiday?

Morrisons supermarkets in England and Wales will be shut on Easter Day, April 9. However, its stores in Scotland will remain open as normal.

All its stores will be open between 7am and 10pm on Good Friday, April 7, and 7am to 8pm on April 10, Easter Monday.

Stores will open as normal on April 8.

Many supermarkets will close on Easter Day as government rules say that any shops in England and Wales larger than 280 square metres must close on Easter Sunday, as well as Christmas Day.

But smaller convenience stores don’t have to.

A Morrisons spokesperson said the majority of its smaller convenience stores will be open on Easter Sunday.

Times may vary at some stores, you can check individual store opening times by using the Morrisons store locator.

Usual opening hours for your nearest store will resume on Tuesday April 11.

Are shops closed on the Bank Holiday?

The majority of retailers have confirmed the days people will be able to shop in their stores over the Easter period.

Most shops and supermarkets will be closed for certain days to give staff some time off.

Many large stores across the UK are shut on Easter Day. Some shops won’t open on the Good Friday and Easter Monday bank holidays either.

Opening hours can vary from branch to branch, so check your local store times before you make the trip.

Most big retailers will have their opening times listed on their websites.

Aldi is closing all its England and Wales stores on Easter Sunday.

The retailer said branches will be open between 8am and 10pm on Good Friday, 8am to 10pm on Easter Saturday and 8am to 8pm on Easter Monday.

And Sainsbury’s will pull down shutters on 600 big stores in England and Wales on Easter Sunday too.

Last year Co-op closed its larger outlets on Easter Sunday while the smaller convenience stores were operating normal opening hours.

And Tesco closed its larger stores on Easter Sunday and reopened them on Easter Monday, although opening hours varied from branch to branch.
