A CHILLING video showing a robot boxing a human fighter has many fearing an AI revolution could soon become a possibility.

An alarming video showcases the AI boxing robot throwing impressive punches in a “Rocky”-style training montage.

The robot, dubbed Nadia, is a creation of researchers at IMHC Robotics and Broadwalk Robotics.

Nadia pays homage to her namesake- Nadia Comaneci, a five-time Olympic gold medalist.

The name choice isn’t coincidental, nodding to the goal of the researchers of “achieving human-range-of-motion”.

To reach ultimate flexibility, the robot has 29 joints, providing it with some of the highest ranges of motion compared to any humanoid in the world.

In the video, Nadia shows off her range of movement through a boxing demonstration.

She can be seen punching some training pads worn by a human test subject to the soundtrack of the hit video game “Mortal Kombat”.

In this case, the robot is controlled by an engineer wearing a Virtual Reality headset and controllers which are translating his movements directly to Nadia.

But the developers hope that it could be fully autonomous in the future.

They said: “The Nadia project is intended to function in indoor environments where stairs, ladders, and debris would require a robot to have the same range of motion as a human.”

IHMC Robotics say that their goal for Nadia is to prevent humans from taking unnecessary risks in life-threatening situations.

According to the team, the robot could be used across different sectors, including firefighting, disaster response and bomb disposal.

“Given the right set of capabilities, Nadia will be able to function as a human teammate, providing the capability to extend human presence without placing someone in harm’s way,” they added.

The video raised concerns among viewers of the potential robot uprising.

One commenter said: “Oh great, we’re teaching terminators to box now”

Another added: ” Wait till Mr robot get the mind of its own and punches you out for real..”

Third viewer expressed their fear: “To me. It’s scary as hell. One day these things will be killing us. Your contribution will be noted.”

Meanwhile others have expressed their fascination with the robot.

One online user wrote: ” I don’t like human fights, but I would definitely go to a robot fight!”

Some suggested future improvements, saying: ” Surely the robot should have AI that detected it was up against a human and refused to throw a punch despite its human controller trying to make it attack.

“I’d have been more impressed to see that!”

Earlier this month, IHMC Robotics released a video of Nadia tackling a complex terrain, effortlessly navigating through hurdles of concrete bricks.

The rapid development of robotic abilities grow fears among people for the future of humanity.

A government expert has warned that robot wars could emerge from AI in just two years.

He has called for urgent measures to regulate their capabilities before humans are unable to control powerful computers.
