POKÉMON Go was released in 2016, and since then has been the world’s most popular mobile game.

Developer Niantic has been trying to replicate that success over the years, but so far had lacklustre results.

The version of Pokémon Go based on Harry Potter called Wizard’s Unite was shuttered after a few years.

Yet another version based on superheroes and villains called Marvel World of Heroes was shuttered after the beta.

Other games like Peridot, Niantic’s version of Tamagotchi, had a rough launch, though it is still seeing players and updates.

However, it seems that Niantic has finally managed to buck this trend with the extremely successful launch of Monster Hunter Now.

More in Mobile Games

While it hasn’t managed Pokémon Go level of excitement, it has over 10million downloads despite only launching in September.

Monster Hunter Now uses the same system as Pokémon Go, requiring players to walk around the real world to gather resources and encounter monsters.

However, the aim is different. Instead of capturing beasts, you simply defeat them and use materials gathered to create new weapons and armour.

Monster Hunter Now launched with six types of weapons, and 13 types of large monsters from the series that players could take on.

However, this modest pool was only intended for launch, and more content is coming in season updates.

It has recently been revealed that the new season will be titled Fulminations in the Frost, and will launch as a free update on December 7.

Niantic hopes to release a new season every three months, with this being the first of many.

Four large monsters from the series will be added to Monster Hunter Now, including Radobaan, Banbaro, Barioth, and Zinogre.

Two new weapon types are also coming to the game: the fast-paced Dual Blades, and the slow and steady Lance.

A new status element will be added too, as Banbaro will have the ability to put players to sleep.

Weapons and armour then made with the parts of the Banbaro will have the ability to put other monsters to sleep.

There will also be a huge focus on rebalancing the game, meaning that all weapons should feel equally powerful to wield.
