GAME of Thrones star Jason Momoa could star in the long-awaited Minecraft movie, according to reports.

The muscular Hollywood icon is said to be in “final negotiations” to feature in a blockbuster flick about the popular video game.

Momoa is best known for playing Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones and Aquaman in the DC movie franchise.

A Minecraft movie has been mooted for around a decade.

But it’s back on track with Momoa in the running to feature, according to a trio of reports from Variety, The Hollywood Reporter and The Ankler.

The deal isn’t completely confirmed yet, and there’s still no release date for the movie.

But Momoa, 42, could be a choice pick given his association with geeky comic book and fantasy franchises.

The Minecraft movie saga began way back in 2012.

That was when game-maker Mojang said it had been receiving offers from Hollywood for TV shows.

In February 2014, it emerged that talks between Mojang and Warner Bros. Pictures for a movie had begun.

The feature film was reportedly in early development by October that year, and was eventually slated for a May 2019 release.

The movie was then pushed back to a March 4, 2022 release due to the Covid pandemic.

Warner Bros ultimately removed the movie from its schedule, and has yet to reveal an official release window.

But the movie now appears to be back on track, with a new director and Jason Momoa in a starring role.

Minecraft is one of the world’s biggest gaming franchises.

It’s a sandbox video game where players gather materials and create their own structures and worlds.

Minecraft first went public in May 2009 ahead of a full release in November 2011.

It’s one of the best-selling video games of all time, with more than 238million copies sold.

And around 140million players log on to Minecraft every single month.

Minecraft was bought up by Microsoft in 2014 for $2.5billion.

It’s available on a wide range of platforms, including Windows, macOS, iOS, Android, Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and Apple TV.

Thrones star Momoa has had a tough year, after he announced his split from his wife, 54-year-old Lisa Bonet, back in January.

They share two children together: daughter Lola, 14, and son Nakoa-Wolf, 13.

“We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times,” the couple announced in a joint statement.

However, the couple were reported to be working on their marriage just a few weeks ago, according to Hollywood Life.
