ANDROID users will soon receive a “game-changer” upgrade that prevents their phone from constantly pinging with notifications.
Google – which runs Android – has just unveiled its first test build of the new software ahead of wide release later this year.
It follows a surprise upgrade on the current version of Android which now allows users to edit messages.
But later this year there could be something even more useful coming.
Nerds have been busy trying out Android 15 beta and uncovered a new feature called “Notification cooldown”.
And it sounds ideal for anyone who’s ever been bombarded with alerts from the same source, such as a friend who sends too many successive messages on WhatsApp or a deluge of work emails during the day.

Rather than stopping notifications altogether – which you can already do – the tool cleverly cuts down on a quick load of alerts from pinging your phone all at once.
The feature description says it will “gradually lower the notification volume when you get many successive notifications from the same app”.
Three options are available within the setting: apply to all notifications, apply to conversations or switch it off.
The Android Authority website revealed the upcoming feature, describing it as a “game changer”.

“What’s gonna happen to me!” one user joked.
“I’m that guy who does it.”
Another added: “I only need this because my children can’t seem to grasp putting more than one sentence in a text.”
Android 15
Android 15 – codenamed Vanilla Ice Cream – will see the arrival of several new features and design tweaks.
Though nothing is set in stone, the very first beta has given us an early glimpse of what to expect.
Partial screen sharing, more in-app camera controls and the return of lock screen widgets are among the additions that are likely to be on the cards.
