Millions of Android phones have ‘secret button’ that can do almost anything – it’s hiding in plain sight

MILLIONS of Android phones have a hidden button on the back.

It’s easy to miss, because it’s not plainly obvious unless you know it’s there.

The feature is called Quick Tap, and it’s designed to activate specific features at speed.

It works by tapping your finger twice on the back of your phone.

But it’ll only work on certain phone models – and only once you’ve set it up.

For instance, Pixel owners will need a Pixel 4a (5G) or later to get it to work.

You can assign different gestures to it, like taking a screenshot or using Google Assistant.

It can also open specific apps, toggle the flashlight on or off, or play and pause media.

How to activate Quick Tap

Go into your Settings app and then go to Settings > Gestures > Quick Tap.

Now simply toggle on the Use Quick Tap feature.

Choose an action to associate with Quick Tap.

If you choose Open App, you’ll then need to select the app you want the gesture to open.

Then to complete it, tap twice on the back of your phone.

How to do it on iPhone too

On iPhone, this feature is known as Back Tap.

You’ll want to go into Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap.

There you’ll see options to set up Back Tap for both Double Tap and Triple Tap.

These can be assigned to different functions, which is very useful.

For instance, you could set Double Tap to take screenshots, while a Triple Tap can activate Shazam to identify music playing nearby.

It’s also possible to assign Back Tap to a Shortcut that you’ve created inside the Shortcuts app.

This lets Back Tap serve almost any function, including opening specific apps or photo albums.

You can change any of these settings at any time if you don’t like it – including turning Back Tap off completely.
