ANDROID owners are about to receive a major upgrade that’s perfect for clumsy texters.

Google has injected its smartphone keyboard with a hint of artificial intelligence (AI) which can proofreed texts before they’re sent.

The new Proofread feature is currently only available to a handful of beta testers, according to 9to5Google.

But once it goes through testing, it will (hopefully) land on Android Gboards globally.

To use the feature, beta testers say a new button appears in the top right of the keyboard’s toolbar to activate it proofreading.

It will act as a generative AI assistant for keeping spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors at bay.

By tapping Proofread on a messages, the entire text is processed by Google.

Users may then be given a Fix it prompt which makes suggested changes automatically.

So, users don’t have to manually adjust their text themselves.

Messages will be sent to Google to be “temporarily processed” to create writing suggestions, according to the permissions pop-up that appears when you go to use the feature.

This is where the feature may face a popularity issue.

The thought of having ones messages sent off to Google for “processing” could sour people’s interest.

However, most Android owners are currently keen on the feature.

“This is exciting and I’m glad I signed up for the beta. AI is the future,” one beta tester wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Another wrote: “This is why I love Google.”
