The much-loved 99p cheeseburger will increase in price for the first time in 14 years, and will now cost £1.19.

McDonald’s said: “Some prices remain unaffected and some will continue to vary across our restuarnats.

“We understand that any price increases are not good news, but we have delayed and minimised these changes for as long as we could.”

McDonald’s is the latest in a line of restaurants and retailers which have put their prices up.

Many have blamed soaring costs, supply issues and the Covid crisis, saying they have been forced to pass these rising prices on to customers.

The fast food giant said price hikes would take effect from today, and would add between 10p and 20p to the cost of a number of the menu items most impacted by inflation.

The Sun has asked for the full list of items affected.

Earlier this month, McDonald’s launched a Rewards programme offering customers one point for every penny spent through its app.

The points can be redeemed in exchange for free food or donated to charity.
