MATALAN has a huge baby event underway where you can pick up socks, dresses, trousers and rompers at some unbeatable prices.

More than 140 items are £5 and under so there are plenty of bargains to choose from.

All the baby items are under £5

All the baby items are under £5

Most of the items are for little ones aged up to 23 months so you can definitely bag a bargain if you need to refresh a small wardrobe.

The cheapest items that Matalan has in the offer start from £2, but nothing is more than £5, and that includes some multipacks too.

The items can be bought online and delivered to your door for free if you spend more than £40.

Anything under that is going to cost another £3.95 and it will take around five days to get to you.

How to compare prices to get the best deal

JUST because something is on offer, or is part of a sale, it doesn’t mean it’s always a good deal.

There are plenty of comparison websites out there that’ll check prices for you – so don’t be left paying more than you have to.

Most of them work by comparing the prices across hundreds of retailers.

Here are some that we recommend:

  • Google Shopping is a tool that lets users search for and compare prices for products across the web. Simply type in keywords, or a product number, to bring up search results.
  • Price Spy logs the history of how much something costs from over 3,000 different retailers, including Argos, Amazon, eBay and the supermarkets. Once you select an individual product you can quickly compare which stores have the best price and which have it in stock.
  • Idealo is another website that lets you compare prices between retailers. All shoppers need to do is search for the item they need and the website will rank them from the cheapest to the most expensive one.
  • CamelCamelCamel only works on goods being sold on Amazon. To use it, type in the URL of the product you want to check the price of.

But you can use the retailer’s free click and collect if you want to save on the extra fee.

Otherwise you can head in-store to check out the bargain buys – Matalan has a handy locator tool to help you find your nearest store.

We’ve rounded up our top picks of things in the under £5 baby event at the store, check them out below.

This one is perfect for storing a bundle of everyday essentials as it’s durable and has sturdy handles, but with a cute Disney twist featuring the grey Dumbo design.

The bag is also one of the cheapest items in the baby event as prices start from £2.

If it’s the Disney print that you’re after in a tote bag style, then Amazon has a few options, but they’re at least £5 more expensive, like one on offer for £7.99.

This £2 t-shirt is also one of the cheapest in the event – it has a cute slogan and is made of soft cotton.

It’s also got short sleeves with handy button fastenings for easy changing making the tee practical as well as a bargain.

At Tu you can pick up a multipack of dino inspired t-shirts for the same age group for £8.

In other words, while it costs £6 extra, you basically get each t-shirt for roughly £2.70 as there’s three in a pack.

The simple design will easily pair with any outfit at the bargain £2.50 price.

George has tops for little girls with the funky slogans on for the same £2.50 price.

This £3 bargain means you basically get each bib in the pack for 60p, and the multipack comes in an assortment of colours.

You’ll be able to mop up any mealtime mess as they are made in a cotton-rich blend with a plastic backing.

Marks and Spencers offers an almost identical multipack too but the store is charging £7 for its version.

That makes each of the bibs £1.40 each which is an increase of 80p per bib compared to Matalan’s bargain offer.

A bright bold summer dress is the perfect warmer weather wardrobe addition.

This one is made from soft stretch cotton for maximum comfort, and it’s featured in a vibrant red with pretty detailing.

If you’re after a pretty dress for a bargain though, H&M have similar styles for only £2.99, so you could save 51p by purchasing a new little girls dress from the store.

These mini loafer-style shoes are definitely affordable at £4 and Matalan has many other shoes and sandals listed in the event at the same price.

They come in grey and have a soft sole for comfy wear, and they’re finished with a velcro strap fastening for a secure fit on wriggly feet.

At Clarks the cheapest baby shoes on offer start at £16 so you could save 4 times as much at Matalan.

The deal means these little loafers are £12 cheaper.

Unisex Stripe Sun Hat

This cheap striped sun hat is a must if you’re planning any sunny outings this summer.

It has a wide brim to shield little faces from the sun, and has a tie fastening to keep it securely in place.

This accessory even has a whole matching outfit to accompany it with a pair of striped blue sandals for £4 that complete the look.

But you will have to stretch a little more to purchase the matching blue striped dress that Matalan suggests pairing the hat with, as that costs more than double the price at £12.

Tu offer sun hats for little heads from £4 so you could save £1 by heading to the supermarket for the accessory purchase.

Boys Double Cloth Trousers

These trousers are a perfect staple for any little dude’s wardrobe as they are made from soft woven double cloth which will keep cool in warmer weather.

The little trousers even have side pockets, and elasticated cuffs as well as the aesthetic button detailing.

George has trousers for little boys for the same price of £5 but they’re made of a heavier and thicker material, so you’ll have to weigh up whether you want to invest in the more wintery or summery style.

Matalan launched a huge spring sale last month along with other retailers like Dunelm and Argos.

And fans of the store can splurge for even less using shopping codes that we have uncovered which can save you up to £20 off your haul.

But some shoppers were fuming last year, claiming their Matalan orders had “gone missing” while the retailer switched off its phone lines.
