Olympic gymnastics icon Mary Lou Retton has returned home to recover after she was put in the intensive care unit last week for pneumonia, her family said.

“Mom is home and in recovery mode,” Retton’s daughter, McKenna Lane Kelley, announced in an Instagram post Monday. “We still have a long road of recovery ahead of us, but baby steps.”

Kelley thanked doctors, nurses and Retton’s community of fans for their support.

Retton’s other daughter, Shayla Kelley Schrepfer, told followers that the 5 time Olympic medalist suffered a “scary setback” in her fight against severe pneumonia last week.

The 55-year-old Retton lives in Houston. The name of the hospital where she is being treated has not been disclosed.

Her four daughters raised over $450,000 through a crowdfunding campaign to help pay Retton’s hospital bill.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.
