HOUSEHOLDS across the country are looking to save cash as bills are on the rise.
Now Martin Lewis has share a top tip for saving money on your energy bill – by using less water.

The money saving expert said: “Bizarrely, one way to save on your energy bills is to use less water, because much of the water we use in our home has been heated, so we pay for it to be heated.”
Speaking at the Ideal Home Show, Martin explained that you can even get a free device to help you reduce water usage and your energy bill.
He said: “There’s a website called savemoneysavewater.co.uk which collates all the freebies available from the water companies around the country, such as £30 aerated shower heads, which you can get for free,
“What that does is you can feel the same shower pressure but you’re actually using far less water to do it.
According to the Energy Saving Trust, switching to a water efficient shower head will reduce your hot water usage and save you a decent sum of money.
Showering accounts for a quarter of household water use and 25% of the average energy bill goes on heating water.
Kevin Pratt, personal finance expert at Forbes Advisor previously told The Sun that a four-person household could save as much as £70 a year on gas for water heating.
Martin added: “It’s worth checking out, go grab yourself a freebie, save on your water – good if you’re on a water bill – and save on your energy because you’re paying to heat less water.

What is an eco shower head and how do they work?
A regulated shower head uses more water more efficiently reducing it to between seven or eight litres per minute, where a normal shower head has a 15 litres per minute flow rate.
Which? says that there’s a simple test to work out how much your current shower head uses, and if you can benefit from an eco one.
Put a 2-litre container on the shower floor and if it takes less than 12 seconds to fill when the shower is running on full, that’s the equivalent of it putting out 10 litres every minute.
If that’s the case, you could benefit from a low-flow or water-saving shower head, it says.
The shower heads look just like any other you might pick up from your local DIY store and they work with a standard hose, combi boliers and gravity showers that have a pump fitted.
You won’t be able to use it if you have and electric or digital shower though and you musty have at least 0.5 bar water pressure.
Electric and digital showers may have eco modes though, so it’s worth checking your instruction manual.
Whether you can get the shower head for free depends on where you live as not all water companies offer them.
You can purchase the device for as little as £20 though, so you can still save cash overall even if you don’t get one for free.
You can also get other water saving devices for free, like buffalo bags, which save around one to two litres of water with every flush.
Martin has also revealed an easy water meter check that could save you £500 off bills.
