The financial expert highlighted the deal which allows  you to trade in your old Ikea furniture for a gift card to spend online or in-store.

Shoppers can trade in cabinets, bookcases, chairs and more, though it’s not for everything.

Depending on the item’s condition, you can get up to 50 per cent of its original value back as an Ikea gift card.

It needs to be in good condition and it’s fine if your item has some cosmetic wear, but you’ll be offered less.

An item which is valued “as new” must have no scratches and can see you recoup 50 per cent of the original price.

Meanwhile, a “very good” item with “minor scratches” will see you net back 40 per cent.

Lastly, you can get back 30 per cent of the original price if your item has several scratches and is deemed “well used”.

Ikea Family members will be over the moon to know that they will receive a 25 per cent extra on top of the buyback value until April 30.

WHAT IS THE IKEA FAMILY CARD?

  • IKEA Family was first launched in 1952 by their founder, Ingvar Kamprad, who opened a customer club called “Silverklubben”.
  • It’s more modern re-launch took place in 1984 when their Swedish Linköping branch opened the popular club once again to their loyal customers.
  • The Ikea family card is advertised as a club that anyone can join, on their site they say: “Some clubs for the select few, but IKEA Family is for everyone.”
  • The club is free to join by heading to their website and signing up, once signed up customers can expect to get member discounts, free hot drinks, specialist workshop and event invites and free cover on items until they’re assembled at home.

Staff will then inspect the item and may alter your quote if they think there are any discrepancies from how you described it.

If you’re thinking of taking back a larger item, bear in mind that you may need to arrange transport.
