Some shops and supermarkets reduce hours on public holidays to give staff some much-needed time off and due to trading laws.

Your local M&S branch may be one of them over the early May bank holiday, which is on May 6 this year..

When will M&S be open over the early May bank holiday?

M&S stores are open as usual on Saturday May 4 and Sunday May 6, 2024.

That’s because these are normal weekend days, so the typical Saturday and Sunday opening times apply.

On a Sunday there are limits on how long some stores can be open, depending on their size.

This is due to Sunday trading laws. Though in some shops you can browse for a period of time before tills open to make sales.

Monday, May 6 is a bank holiday – one of two this month,

A second will follow on May 27, which is the Spring bank holiday.

Some M&S stores will open later and close earlier than usual on these Mondays.

For example, M&S Croydon will open at 9am instead of 8am, and close at 6pm instead of 7pm.

The same goes for M&S Newcastle. In Aberystwyth meanwhile there’s no change to it’s usual opening time of 8am..

But the doors will shut earlier at 6pm instead of 8pm.

Opening times at M&S stores vary so it’s also always best to check your local store to avoid disappointment.

It’s not just M&S which can see a change to store opening and closing times.

Retailers‘ hours vary over the bank holidays, so you should check each specific store to avoid a wasted journey.

Most supermarkets and large high street chains have store locators on their website which you can use to find the opening hours for your nearest branch.

In most cases, you just have to enter your postcode into the search bar and it will tell you what time that store is open and closed.
