Payday loans were searched for 2,200 times per month, 210 energy price cap searches and 310 people were looking for the cheapest energy suppliers.
Newcastle followed closely behind as the second most affected city.
It had one of the highest searches for payday loans in the study with 1000 people a month looking for quick ways to get money and cover unexpected costs.
As the third place, Leeds had one of the highest numbers of people looking for information on the energy price cap.
Glasgow was revealed as the fourth most-affected place with searches for same day loans being the third most searched term in the entire UK.

Residents also were among the most keen to switch energy providers for the cheapest service.
Other Scottish cities feeling the effect of the cost of living were Aberdeen placing 7th, Belfast 15th and Edinburgh 22nd.
Newport, Cardiff and the London Borough of Brent were the least affected areas.
These places showed the fewest number of people searching online for information on the energy price cap, quick loans, ways of saving money and information on the cheapest energy suppliers.
Reading, Sutton, Southampton, Birkenhead, Southend-on-Sea, Luton and Brent also showed low and infrequent search patterns.
The UK search engine data was analysed by self-storage experts Pink Storage to determine which areas were struggling the most with the ever-increasing cost of living.
Search behaviour was tracked per region for key terms including energy price cap, payday loans, save money and cheapest energy supplier.
A spokesperson from Pink Storage said: “The cost of living is something most of us are worried about, by analysing the online search behaviour we can see how people are trying to make ends meet.
“If wholesale energy prices remain high we can expect further energy price increases and as a result, people’s online search behaviour will reflect this.”
