Ever since then, fans across the globe have been crying out for them to come back.

For some of them, their prayers have now been answered.

The bagels are now available in around 1,200 restaurants in parts of America.

Foodies in states like California, Nashville, Florida, Tennessee, and New York can now get their hands on the favourite.

There are four variations, including bacon, sausage or steak – and all feature egg and cheese.

After seeing the news on social media The Sun approached McDonald’s to see if UK fans will also see their dreams come true anytime soon.

Unfortunately, the much-loved Breakfast Bagels there are no current plans for the beloved snacks to rejoin the UK menu, the chain confirmed.

It comes after the fast-food giant brought back the equally popular Breakfast Wraps earlier this year.

McDonald’s biggest burger make-over in decades

The Sun exclusively revealed the news in January, before giving them a go ourselves.

Although, it has had a bit of a makeover.

Previously, the wrap contained a folded omelette-style egg but now foodies get two rounded eggs stuffed inside.

The Breakfast Bagel in the UK was similar to the wrap and held most of the English breakfast essentials like eggs, cheese and crispy bacon.

The bagels on the US menu, however, still have the folded egg.

Maccies axed both Breakfast Wraps and Breakfast Bagels from restaurants in March 2020.

And foodies praying for their return were left distraught in January 2022 when it was confirmed the items would not be returning for good.

Now, even despite the wrap’s return, almost every time McDonald’s updates its menu the comments on social media are flooded with fans begging for the bagel to be brought back too.

One said recently said on a post about the wrap: “Nah… Until we have the breakfast bagel back I’ll stick to Tim Hortons.”

While another wrote: “A bagel would be better.”

A third commented: “Not without the bagels it’s not. Bring them back!”

A fourth posted: “Be even better if it was the bagel you used to offer.”

And a fifth simply said: “Breakfast Bagels please.”

Another declared: “Well then, check the data that says for you to bring back the Breakfast Bagel!”

“Where’s the breakfast bagel please?”, one disappointed fan asked.

The Sun has also revealed six items lost forever from McDonald’s menu that fans would “love” to see return.

McDonald’s

What else is on the McDonald’s breakfast menu?

Fans of the fast food chain will know that it usually updates its regular menu, which is served from 11am daily, every six weeks or so.

But the breakfast menu doesn’t see much action by comparison.

Its latest addition was the wrap, which is said to only be around for a limited time – unless it’s made permanent.

The new Breakfast Wrap includes a pork sausage patty, two round free-range eggs, and a slice of bacon.

It also includes a crispy potato rosti and cheese and is served in a tortilla wrap with either tomato ketchup or brown sauce.

The returning favourite is available from £4.39 on its own, or £5.89 for a meal with a drink and a hashbrown.

But do remember that prices do vary from restaurant to restaurant so make sure you double check before you pay.

Prior to the wrap’s return, the Mighty McMuffin debuted in November 2022.

The stacked snack then made a return in March last year and has been on the menu ever since.

It comes with sausage, egg, double bacon, cheese, and ketchup or brown sauce.

McDonald’s serves breakfast every day until 11am.

It used to switch to the lunchtime menu at the earlier time of 10.30am, but bosses added an extra 30 minutes to the breakfast offering two years ago.

Restaurants that are normally open 24 hours a day start serving breakfast from 5am.

Every other restaurant kicks off the day with the breakfast menu at their normal opening times.

You can find out where your nearest branch is and what time it opens using the store locator tool.

How can I save on my McDonald’s order?

But always keep in mind menu prices can vary across different restaurants – so perhaps check prices online first to avoid getting a surprise.

You can get freebies on your birthday if you’ve got the My McDonald’s app – it’s free to download and you’ll only need a few quick details to get set up.

Remember to log your date of birth on the app though, otherwise, you’ll miss out.

You can get a Big Mac and fries for just £1.99 as well if you fill out the quick feedback survey following your last visit.

All you’ll need is your receipt which should have been issued no more than 60 days after your visit.

How do I find my nearest McDonald’s?

If you’re planning on taking a trip to McDonald’s, you’ll want to know where your nearest branch is.

The chain has a restaurant locator tool on its website you can use to find your nearest one – and check what time it opens.

Bear in mind that McDonald’s serves breakfast every day until 11am.

After that, the menu switches to the normal menu serving meals such as burgers, chicken nuggets and more.
