But the cans, from start-up The Pack, will cost eco-conscious dog owners £3 each. Tins of traditional Pedigree Chum can cost as little as 60p each.

The range includes the flavours No-Fishy Dishy, No-Cluck Casserole and No-Moo Ragu.

Other ingredients include papaya, butternut squash and seaweed.

TV vet Rory Cowlam has given his support to the London-based brand, run by married couple Damien Clarkson and Judy Nadel.

They claim the food offers all the recommended amounts of nutrition, protein and vitamins found in traditional meaty rivals.

Their website also says the food is more digestible than regular dog food.
And it also warns that their pets may become more regular following the change to their diet.

Its website adds: “Dogs are facing a health crisis, and obesity and cancer rates in pooches are sky-high.

“We know that the meat-heavy and unnatural nasties pumped into pet food have a lot to do with it.

“That’s why we’re showing humans that plant-based eating can make dogs healthier, stronger, shinier and happier.”
