ALDI is slapping security protection stickers on £1.20 multi-packs of chocolate after a spate of thefts.

The yellow patches, often seen on luxury items like whisky or perfume, are found on bags of Cadbury Twirl Bars.

A tiny receiver on the bottom of the tag sets off alarms if taken out of the shop without being deactivated by staff.

Photos obtained by The Sun from a branch in South London also shows packs of Mars bars, Maltesers, KitKats and Snickers — sold for £1.59 each — given the stickers.

Share bags of Skittles and Haribo also have the added protection.

A source said: “Thieves will quite literally target any products they can get hold of easily, including sweets.

“They may only be sold for one or two quid but if 10 or 15 packs are being taken a week that adds up to quite a lot.

“Realistically thieves are likely to move onto other products or ignore the security warning and still try to take the sweets.”

Aldi was approached for comment.
