A MAJOR Mexican food chain has axed a key ingredient from its menu and it might upset some fans.

Wahaca, a popular restaurant chain, has removed its steak dishes from the menu.

It will come into effect this month, though we don’t know the exact date.

All steak dishes will be removed from the Wahaca menu, including its steak and cheese taco.

The change applies to all Wahaca restaurants across the country.

It means there will only be two beef dishes for customers to choose from.

The change comes as part of its move to be more sustainable.

Wahaca co-founder Thomasina Miers commented: “Being conscious that meat and dairy products are among the biggest culprits from an emissions perspective has led to us expanding our vegetarian and vegan offering in recent years.

“And we wanted to look at a way of reducing the amount of meat dishes further, while still offering truly tasty options for those that still enjoy eating it.”

Wahaca was co-founded by Thomasina Miers, who won Masterchef in 2005.

She was inspired to enter following a long visit to Mexico, which had massively influenced her style of cooking.

In 2007 she opened the first Wahaca, expanding to an impressive 25 restaurants across the UK.

The chain was thrown into crisis in 2016 when an outbreak of norovirus left more than 300 customers ill and forced Miers and her business partner to temporarily close the restaurants.

Wahaca isn’t the first eatery to shake up its menu recently.

Wendy’s, an American fast good giant, is bringing its famous “Biggie Meal Deal” to the UK.

The meal deal comes complete with a spicy chicken sandwich, classic chicken nuggets, small fries and a small drink.

It’ll cost customers £7.99 in store, or £9.99 if they order online, though not every location will offer it on delivery.

But there is a catch as the Biggie Meal deal will only run for a short amount of time and chicken fans will need to be quick.

It’s available for shoppers to order in store and will leave the UK on June 2.

While Wetherspoons fans were livid after the chain cranked up prices on its products.

One Spoons menu now shows a list of updated costs, such as £4.03 for soup and nachos setting you back £5.54.

The new prices have left some drinkers devastated, with one TikTokker sharing her confusion in a video that has since gone viral.

The social media user @brodie_bites_ blasted her experience in Glasgow, saying: “Can someone please explain what on Earth has happened to Wetherspoons prices?
